There’s a new Guru in Centocelle… and it’s a woman!
The second season of the RaiPlay Original series “The Guru,” a Stand By Me production in collaboration with Rai Fiction, is back. Eight 30-minute episodes will be available as a box set starting Friday, April 19, 2024, exclusively on RaiPlay.
The brilliant comedy series directed by Laura Muscardin and inspired by Oscio, the famous character created by Federico Palmaroli and a social phenomenon with 2 million followers, sees Carlotta Natoli taking the lead role as Teresa Baroni in the new episodes. The cast also includes new entry Francesco Paolantoni, alongside the beloved faces from the first season: Rossella Brescia, Beatrice De Mei, Chiara Bassermann, Alessandro Bertoncini, Fabrizio Giannini, Davide Devenuto, Alessandro Riceci, Guia Jelo, Daniela Terreri, Alessio Sakara, and Claudio Segaluscio.
The second season – written by Federico Palmaroli, Valerio Vestoso, Alessandro Bosi, Mary Stella Brugiati, Serena Tateo, and Simona Ercolani – starts a year after the disappearance of the Santone. Unexpectedly taking up the “spiritual leadership” of Centocelle and donning Enzo’s mundu is his wife Teresa (Carlotta Natoli), who is left alone with her daughter Novella (Beatrice De Mei), who wants to leave the neighborhood and move to the EUR and is still romantically linked to Mirko (Claudio Segaluscio).
A woman, mother, and now Santona, Teresa must fight to assert herself in the neighborhood against the Only Oscio (Francesco Paolantoni), a pseudo-santone of Neapolitan origin who claims to be the reincarnation of Enzo and intends to exploit Centocelle to pay off his debts to a crime boss, his ex-girlfriend Nocciolina (Antonella Stefanucci), who was left at the altar and now seeks revenge. In a short time, the Only Oscio manages to captivate the neighborhood residents, even bringing Enzo’s old friends, such as Carlo Crack (Alessandro Bertoncini), Stefano (Fabrizio Giannini), and Pietro (Davide Devenuto), to his side. Complicating matters is the return to Centocelle of the Apulian Cosima (Rossella Brescia), ready to reprise her alter ego Jacqueline, a fierce showbiz agent, after an unhappy agrarian stint in her homeland. Meanwhile, Igor (Alessio Sakara) has left the criminal world and become a real estate agent, while his partner Fabiola (Chiara Bassermann) is ready to start a new business, first a beauty center and then “gin yoga.”
The new season, which also features a cameo by neomelodic singer Antoine, continues to humorously and lightly depict the joys and sorrows of gentrified Italian suburbs and contemporary society in general, touching on themes such as the dark side of popularity, the power of virality, the sense of community belonging, the need for guidance, and hopes for the future, using a language that introduces a melting pot of Italian comedy styles, from the Roman humor of Santona Carlotta Natoli, to the unexpected Apulian humor of Rossella Brescia, to the Neapolitan humor of Francesco Paolantoni.
